23 Jan Masterclasses education, official presentation of the project and announcement of distribution of 15.000 micro:bits

During the weekend of 20th to 22nd January an educational masterclass was held for the ambassadors of the project “Digital Literacy Revolution”. The ambassadors, after the workshop, will be able to transfer knowledge and experience of working with microcomputers in the classroom to teachers, librarians and schools that will be involved in the project.

Along with the education, an official presentation of the project for the media and the public was organized.

The project organizer, Rotary Club Zagreb Centar, will donate micro:bits, microcomputers that can be used as a learning tool for improving STEM education in grades 1 – 4 in 300 Croatian primary schools.

Application call for all interested schools was publicized in December 2022 and the distribution of the donated devices to the participating schools is expected soon. Education about the use of the equipment will be organized for all involved, so this weekend educators were trained to hold workshops for other teachers and librarians in the project.

 

The education was held by the project partner, the Institute for Youth Development and Innovation – IRIM in Zagreb. It was attended by project ambassadors – educators who have already distinguished themselves in the use of micro:bits and the education of other teachers and librarians in Croatia.

Ambassadors will hold workshops around Croatia and educate teachers and librarians about the use of micro:bits in classes and in extracurricular activities. 

In addition to the education, a short presentation of the project to the media and the public was also organized and the announcement was made that the project plans to:
 – Donate 15.000 micro:bit devices for use in classrooms
 – Educate 1.200 teachers and librarians on the use of this equipment
 – Develop and provide free educational materials from various subjects within the classroom

“DIGITAL LITERACY REVOLUTION” is a project of the Rotary Club Zagreb Center in partnership with the Institute for Youth Development and Innovation – IRIM and the Ministry of Science and Education of Croatia, with the support of The Rotary Foundation, Rotary District 1913 and 35 Rotary clubs and districts from the country and abroad (USA- a, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil and the Netherlands). The value of the project is almost 390,000 USD, and it is supported and sponsored by leading Croatian ICT companies.
