20 Nov The first round of education for all project participants begins
November 20, 2023
From November 20 to December 8, throughout Croatia, we are conducting 100 workshops dedicated to the education of primary school teachers, computer science teachers, and school librarians who are part of the Digital Literacy Revolution project.
The aim of these workshops is to introduce participants to the fascinating world of micro:bit, including its components, features, and educational potential for use in classrooms.
The project encompasses 1,200 teachers (grades 1. – 4.), librarians, and computer science teachers, who will undergo 6 educational rounds over the span of two school years to become equipped for effective use of the micro:bit in primary education.
The workshops are being conducted by a group of project ambassadors, who are not only seasoned educators but also experienced teachers. These ambassadors have a long-standing and successful partnership with IRIM. Their expertise lies in effectively using micro:bits and they have a proven track record in training both teachers and librarians across Croatia in utilizing these technologies. These ambassadors have been integral to several other projects undertaken by IRIM, where their skills in implementing micro:bits in educational settings were prominently featured.
In this first cycle, we will familiarize all participants with the micro:bit as an educational tool for presenting existing curriculum content in a digitally creative way. Additionally, participants will be familiarized with the basics of programming and will create several (likely their first) simple programs.

The first few workshops have already taken place. Here is a short photo gallery:
“The Digital Literacy Revolution” is a project of the Rotary Club Zagreb Centar in partnership with the Institute for Youth Development and Innovation – IRIM and the Ministry of Science and Education, with the support of The Rotary Foundation, Rotary District 1913, and 35 Rotary clubs and districts from Croatia and abroad (USA, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, and the Netherlands). The project is valued at nearly 390,000 USD and is supported and sponsored by leading Croatian ICT companies.
